Henry Winters Luce was a missionary educator in China from 1897 to 1927. Following his return to the United States he was appointed to a professorship in the Chinese department of the Kennedy School of Missions of the Hartford Theological Foundation in Hartford, Conn., where he remained until retirement in 1935.
